How businesses are using the Lion brand

Have you ever wondered why so many businesses and products are named after lions? Most probably, the owners and inventors are particularly fond of lions. Perhaps they think that lions are regal or lions might bring them lots of luck. Why do you think the Lions Club got its name? Any football player would love to be playing for The Lions and there’s even a hike in Vancouver named after these regal creatures, although, you’d be hard-pressed to find any real lions on that walk as beautiful as the area may be.

Lion tea and beer

If you do a Google search, you’ll find a heap of cool things named after lions, from Lion brand yarn (America’s oldest craft yarn company) to Lion tea and Lion beer. There’s a Lion Brewery in Sri Lanka that produces a range of Lion-branded brews that could only be a roaring success.

Lion martial arts

Lions might bite scratch, roar and pounce on their prey but the only time a lion attacks is when they are being attacked, usually by another lion. They use their claws and teeth to fight. So it’s not surprising there are a slew of martial arts schools named after the mighty lion. Some of the names are rather descriptive, like Sleeping Lion Martial Arts Academy and Green Lion Martial Arts. I like the Sleeping Lion one as it conjures images of a lion so strong it can fight in its sleep.

Lion cleaning services

These fierce fighting animals are equally as focused when it comes to keeping clean. Just like cats, lions lick themselves clean. They have a natural propensity to keep their fur and other parts of their bodies clean. Also not surprisingly, a slew of cleaning companies wear the lion badge with pride, such as the White Lion Cleaning Company, Red Lion Vacuum repair service, and the Blue Lion carpet cleaning service. Presumably, these lion-variety cleaning services use real vacuum cleaners to suck up the dirt at your home.

Lions are chosen to sell everything from underwear (yes you can buy underpants with lion faces!) to pool products (though it would seem more appropriate to name a range of pool accessories “elephant pool products”. Thankfully, most pool cleaners are named after dolphins and sharks!

Anyway, if you’re looking for a good name for your business or club, try squeezing in the wold “lion” somewhere in the business name and you might transform your tiny fledgling idea into a roaring success!
